The problem with most setups

Sound that works indoors
falls apart outside.

A Bluetooth speaker on the deck. Volume cranked to cover the yard, which means it’s too loud near the speaker and inaudible fifteen feet away. Dead zones at the edge of the patio. Music that cuts out when someone walks past with their phone. Gear you drag in every time it rains.

Outdoor audio is an engineering problem, not a speaker problem. The space, the surfaces, the coverage distances — those determine whether a system actually works. Getting that right requires a different approach than indoor audio.

What most people try first
A portable Bluetooth speaker. It works until you move more than ten feet from it. Then you’re adjusting volume constantly, and half the yard still sounds hollow.
What a designed system delivers
Balanced volume across every zone. Speakers that disappear into the landscape. Audio that feels ambient, not like it’s coming from a specific point.
What clients notice first
They stop thinking about the sound. It’s just there. That’s what a properly designed outdoor audio system feels like — you stop noticing it and start enjoying the space.

How we design coverage

Coverage first.
Equipment second.

Most outdoor audio installations start with a speaker product and figure out placement later. We start with your space — how you use it, where people gather, what surfaces reflect sound and which absorb it — and design the coverage from there.

A covered patio behaves completely differently than an open pool deck. Trees and fences affect how sound travels. A system designed around your actual space delivers even volume at a comfortable level everywhere, instead of blasting the area near the speakers and leaving the corners quiet.

Z

Locally owned by Zach Everett in Lima, Ohio. We install outdoor audio as part of a complete exterior system — designed alongside your landscape lighting so the wiring, zones, and controls work together from day one.

Satellite speakers
Small, weather-resistant speakers mounted discreetly on structures or positioned in landscaping. Individually aimed for precise coverage. The workhorse of most outdoor audio systems.
In-ground subwoofers
Buried flush in the mulch or soil, completely invisible until you’re told where to look. Adds low-frequency foundation that satellite speakers alone can’t deliver outdoors.
Planter and rock speakers
Speakers designed to look like decorative boulders or planter bases. Full-range sound from something that blends completely into the landscape — guests won’t know they’re there.
Multi-zone control
Independent volume and source control for each zone — patio, pool deck, garden — from your phone or a wall-mounted keypad. Different music or volume in each space simultaneously.
2–6
Speakers per zone
Most outdoor zones are covered by 2 to 6 satellite speakers depending on size and layout. More speakers at lower volume beats fewer speakers at higher volume every time.
Zero
Visible wires
All cabling is buried or concealed during installation. What you see is speakers that look like they belong there. What you don’t see is the engineering that makes it work.
1 day
Typical install time
Most residential outdoor audio systems are fully installed in a single day. You walk outside that evening with a working, tuned system ready to use.

The process

From conversation to first song.

We handle the design, the wiring, and the tuning. You just tell us how you use the space.

01

We assess your space and gear

We start by understanding how you actually use your outdoor space — where people gather, what zones matter most — and what audio equipment you already have or want to integrate. Photos, notes, and a clear picture of the outcome you’re after.

02

Custom system design

We spec the right speakers for your coverage needs, design the zone layout, and select amplification and control hardware that fits your lifestyle. Whether it’s a simple patio setup or a multi-zone estate system, the design is built around your property specifically.

03

Installation and tuning

Our team handles all interior and exterior wiring, speaker placement, and amplifier setup. Before we leave, the system is tuned — levels balanced, zones tested, controls confirmed. You walk outside that evening and press play.

Outdoor subwoofer and satellite speaker system installed by Light Up Lima in Northwest Ohio

Built to last outside

Ohio weather is hard
on outdoor equipment.
Ours handles it.

Heat, humidity, freeze-thaw cycles, and UV exposure degrade consumer-grade speakers fast. The equipment we install is rated for continuous outdoor exposure. We’ve seen what happens when people use indoor or semi-outdoor speakers outside in Ohio — it’s not a question of if they fail, it’s when.

Beyond the speakers, the wiring matters. All cabling is properly rated for direct burial, routed to avoid damage points, and connected with weatherproof terminations. A system that sounds great on day one should still sound great in year five.

Weather-rated equipment
All speakers carry outdoor-rated weather resistance for year-round exposure. UV-stable grilles, sealed enclosures, and corrosion-resistant hardware.
Direct-burial cabling
All wiring uses direct-burial rated cable routed at proper depth. No exposed wiring, no conduit failures, no ground movement issues.
Amplification and impedance
Amplifier sizing is calculated against speaker load and run length. Mismatched impedance is the most common cause of outdoor amplifier failure — we spec it correctly the first time.
Surge and weatherproof protection
Interior amplifier equipment is protected against power surges and housed properly. Ohio storms are hard on electronics — we account for that in every install.
System tuning before we leave
Every zone is balanced and tested before we close up. You don’t inherit a system that needs adjustment — we do that work on install day.

Integrated with your landscape lighting system. If you already have or are planning landscape lighting, we design your audio and lighting together from the start — shared trenching, coordinated zones, and a single system that controls both. Most clients who add audio to an existing lighting system save significantly on installation costs because the ground work is already done.

Investment

What outdoor audio costs in Northwest Ohio

Every system is custom. These ranges reflect what most homeowners in the Lima and Findlay area invest for a complete outdoor audio installation.

Single zone
$1,500
to $3,000

Covered patio or deck. 2 to 4 satellite speakers, amplification, and a single source input. A solid starting system for one defined space.

Full property / estate
$6,000
and up

Multiple zones across the full property with advanced control, multiple amplification channels, and full integration with your landscape lighting system.

Every proposal is custom. Investment depends on the number of zones, speaker count, amplification requirements, and whether we’re integrating with an existing lighting system. If you already have lighting installed, your audio costs less — we’re running new cabling through existing trenches.

Common questions

How much does outdoor audio installation cost in Northwest Ohio?

Most outdoor audio systems in the Lima and Findlay area fall between $1,500 and $6,000 depending on the number of zones, speaker count, and whether we’re integrating with an existing lighting system. Single-zone patio systems start around $1,500. Multi-zone setups with a subwoofer typically run $3,000 to $6,000. Estate systems with full property coverage are quoted custom. If you already have landscape lighting installed, your audio costs less — we share the trenching.

What kind of outdoor speakers do you install?

We install satellite speakers, in-ground subwoofers, and landscape speakers designed to blend into the environment — including boulder and planter-style speakers that are virtually undetectable. All equipment is weather-rated for year-round outdoor exposure, UV-stable, and built for Ohio’s seasonal temperature swings.

Can outdoor audio be integrated with my landscape lighting?

Yes, and it’s one of the biggest advantages of using one company for both. We design the systems together from the start — shared trenching, coordinated zones, and controls that work together. If you already have landscape lighting from us, adding audio later is straightforward and significantly less disruptive than starting from scratch.

Will the speakers be visible once installed?

Satellite speakers are small and positioned to blend with their surroundings — mounted on structures or placed in landscaping. In-ground subwoofers are buried flush in mulch or soil and are essentially invisible. All cabling is buried or concealed. Most guests don’t realize there’s an audio system until they ask where the sound is coming from.

How do you handle coverage across a large outdoor space?

Coverage is an engineering problem, not just a speaker count question. We design placement based on your actual space — surfaces, distances, how sound travels across open areas versus covered structures. The goal is even volume everywhere at a comfortable level, not loud near the speakers and quiet at the edges. Most systems use 2 to 6 satellites per zone depending on size and layout.

Do you service and repair existing outdoor audio systems?

Yes. We evaluate and repair outdoor audio systems installed by other companies, diagnose coverage and wiring issues, and upgrade outdated equipment. If you have a system that isn’t performing the way it should, we’ll assess it and tell you honestly whether repair or replacement makes more sense.
